The Secretary-General receives a group of artists and academics

On Tuesday May 8th 2018, the Secretary-General of the Iraqi National Congress, Aras Habib Mohammed Kareem received a group of academics and artists at the National Congress Hall in Baghdad.

In his speech, he stressed that the arts represent one of the four pillars of his electoral program, namely women, youth, arts and sports.

“The totalitarian regime, which ruled us controlled art and ridiculed it for a certain reason,” said Habib. “We did not have a real artistic renaissance, despite our talent and capabilities. We need to convey the people’s ideas and aspirations to the duty-holders,” he added.

“Countries and civilizations are measured by their art and culture, therefore it is our duty to lay new artistic foundations that promote our country,” he continued.
